The pressure of a static (non-flowing) liquid is due to the weight of the liquid column above the point of the pressure we measure. So, at any given depth, the pressure is equal to the weight of the liquid above it divided by its area. An expression for the pressure at a depth h in a liquid of density ρ can be found by considering a horizontal area A (see the figure below).
