E-Lecture - Attributive Adjectives

Adjectives in the first position, before the noun that they modify, are called attributive adjectives.

  • He has a small car.
  • He has some delicious pies.
  • Red flowers are my favorite.
  • Gardea loves spicy food.
  • Put the tray on the coffee table.
  • I drive grey car.
  • Peter has a fast car.

Predicative Adjectives

Adjectives in the second position, after the noun that they modify, are called Predicative adjectives. However, predicative adjectives do not occur immediately after the noun. Instead, they follow a verb.

A predicative adjective is an adjective that follows a linking verb and modifies (i.e. describes) the subject of the linking verb.
